Ok So I bought an internal DVD-RW Drive with a USB 2.0 External Enclosure.

The model of the DVD Burner is http://support.necsam.com/oem/cd-rom/ND3540A.asp

It didn't come with any software, Newegg.com said it was PnP.

I hooked it up to the enclosure and plugged it in and everything was detected by my laptop fine. I'm getting Nero Burning ROM and I also have DVD Shrink, but I don't think my computer is detecting the drive as a burning drive. I don't know what to put the jumper on because I can't tell if the CD-RW in my laptop is a master or a slave or a CSEL.

How can i figure this out? I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop.

Also, is there any sort of decoder software i need to get to have the burner recognized as a burning drive or will Nero do that for me??

Thanks for all your help, I'm such a newbie to this shit.

external doesn't need a jumper. as long as the computer sees the enclosure, it should see the drive. you may want to check to make sure you have the newest firmware for the drive though.
