looking at newer models as in 2000+ any opinions?
bulletproof trucks, they'll last 300k miles easily if you dont drive like a douchebag
are you looking for a pavement pounder? If so, they are good trucks. nice drivetrain and power woth no major issues that i know of (as long as its kept on road).
what about a little offroading now and then?
they're good trucks. The auto trannys don't take too much power upgrades tho... If you're thinking forced induction you need to beef up the tranny. Otherwise, solid trucks. They rattle bad, tho... not so hot on the fit and finish.
Check out the forums over here if you're interested. They're a decent group. Obviously they're a little toyo biased, but w/e...
it's redesigned from 05 and up (looks wise and more hp) personally i prefer the pre-05 looks, another good forum is toyotanation.com
95 1/2 to 96 are the 1st generation tacomas. 97 to 98 2nd, changed headlights and grill and some interior options. 99 to 00 are very similar, changed grill/headlight some bodylines and made a little bigger. 01-04 different grill, headlight, body lines, more rounded, 2.7L L4 engine inrtoduced, double cab option, different interior.
the 3.4L V6 is an excellent engine. My wife has a 04 Double cab, great truck. I'm a Tundra guy though...
wont be bad...just dont do anything stupid to bind up the drivetrain...
