The whole thing started with the fact that she's not legally allowed to work outside of her field of study, which doesn't give her any options, because she is not an American citizen. So why not marry her? But it's spun into something else. I want to marry her - I would want to even if not for the convenience. Ironically, for the very reason that she views the notion of a contractual relationship askance, I don't think there's any other girl in the world (or at least any I will likely meet) who I would want to marry aside from her. No one else would take it the same way that we are - a romantic act of the moment rather than a commitment to the future. You guys may recall that she and I used to propose to each other every once in a while. It felt good to do that. It feels good to do this. We've downloaded a basic prenup and, basically, nothing has changed - except that we have this crazy opportunity to celebrate ourselves in a way that people will GET. (Or maybe they won't get it entirely, but they will get more of it.) I think I will still call her my lover, though. Confused? Me too! Anyways this is one of the most awesome things that could've happened. What a turn of events.
