Halfway done.

Been crushing the Peloton lately with 3x PR’s since yesterday. Good mix of jogging, weightlifting, and yoga / stretching. Looking forward to April

Went to the doctor (real doctor lol) a couple days ago. Regular check-up and blood work - haven’t had anything done for 3 years.

Most of my results are better than they were 3 years ago - cholesterol, liver, blood cell counts - all improved.

Not bad for considering I’ve done nothing but eat terribly, gain weight and not exercise at all for the last two years.

But 30 days on the straight and narrow has done the trick to bring me back  Damn your body can put up with a lot of shit

Might be a good thread to ask this.

Was a team sports/martial arts guy up until my mid 20’s. Resting heart rate was always mid 40’s.

Now at 35 I’m at 55-60.

Anyone successfully lower their resting HR by 10+ bpm?

If so how, and how long did it take?

60 is nothing to be concerned about.

My typical resting rate is high 80s / low 90s.

The only time I did cardio I ran 4-5 days a week for 3-4 miles at a time for about 9 months. My resting rate dropped to high 50s / low 60s. Went back to normal once I quit running. Because fuck running.

Low 90s seems concerning to me (I'm no doctor though). I'm fat af and my resting HR is 55 and my walking average is 80.

From what I've read, normal resting range is 60-100. Red cross blood donation limit is 100.

Damn, maybe I'm the one that needs to be concerned. Apparently under 60 is good if you're athletic, but I'm... not exactly athletic.

I think lower is generally better, unless it's so low it's causing issues.

It's still a great number you're at but just means you're not exercising as much as you were.

Mine dropped into the 50s when I was working out like crazy years ago, took me 3 months or so IIRC.

My average rhr (59) is higher than what I've actually observed (44) before my daily caffeine jolt, but I think both have probably fallen by 10. I started running 30-40 minutes
3-4 days/week last July, with a couple months off late last year. I probably should try to cut down on the caffeine a bit. I cut out most alcohol for this fitness contest, which probably helps, too.

The heart rate conversion reminded me to bring my heart rate monitor to the gym, just to see.

Resting heart rate of ~110 jumping to 165-170 while squatting. Always wondered why each set felt like it might kill me.

Bro, maybe get that checked.

I promise I'm not trying to be a douche and I'm genuinely concerned, but I'm a fatass (6'0 262) and I lived a completely sedentary life for the past five years up until last November, and despite this it takes a massive effort for me to hit 170 - like riding my bike up a huge hill. At 110 I'm nearly breaking a sweat! That's brisk walk territory, that definitely seems high for a resting HR imo (I'm not a doctor though). I'm completely unhealthy which is why I'm providing this context, it just seems really off to have a resting HR of 110 and to hit 170 doing lifts. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe lifting can elevate it that high, but that's like zone-4 cardio territory for a lot of people.

Are you doing CrossFit type lifts? That I can see blasting your heart, but it seems really high if you're just doing normal sets. Or maybe you just go way harder than I do when you lift, hah.

Have you done any activity in the last year? Or is this contest your first go at it?

Been lifting 3 days most weeks since Nov again. Outside work during the summer. Definitely no cardio. I take the dog on motorcycle runs.

I'm 6'3, 164 currently. I've always had a high resting pulse. Use to consult the lords cabbage before grocery shopping, I would go in and use the blood pressure machine. Heart rate was always low/mid 100s.

The only time I almost got denied giving blood I had smoked shorty before going in. I think it was 104. Sat back with some water and relaxed brought it down to like 98.

Maybe sounds worth than it is. Its a quick spike, not sustained. Neat graph of my work out. I run a basic 5x5 program, 3-4 min between sets. I don't lift real heavy. 170 squat, 115 bench, 120 rows today. I'm due for an annual check up. My second ever. I have a couple other questions I'll add this too.

What is your resting rate first thing in the morning?
