Bro, maybe get that checked.

I promise I'm not trying to be a douche and I'm genuinely concerned, but I'm a fatass (6'0 262) and I lived a completely sedentary life for the past five years up until last November, and despite this it takes a massive effort for me to hit 170 - like riding my bike up a huge hill. At 110 I'm nearly breaking a sweat! That's brisk walk territory, that definitely seems high for a resting HR imo (I'm not a doctor though). I'm completely unhealthy which is why I'm providing this context, it just seems really off to have a resting HR of 110 and to hit 170 doing lifts. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe lifting can elevate it that high, but that's like zone-4 cardio territory for a lot of people.

Are you doing CrossFit type lifts? That I can see blasting your heart, but it seems really high if you're just doing normal sets. Or maybe you just go way harder than I do when you lift, hah.
Heart rate variability is very personal from my understanding. My resting HR is anywhere from 50-60 despite lack of exercise (prior to a month ago). Strenuous exercise puts me between 130-150, really pushing it between 160-170.

My GF however is in 10x better shape than me. Works out frequently. Resting HR is 80-90. Frequently hits 180/190. Doctor says this is okay and she says she doesn’t notice it or feel like it’s that high. Some people are just built differently

Still swimming about a mile a day, 6 days a week. Cranky shoulders since Christmas has been a hinderance. Still, comfortably fit into my skinniest shorts yesterday when it was 80 degrees f.
Impressive. I tried doing laps in the pool yesterday and maybe got 10 laps in.

My update. Started phase 3 of the MAPS Split program. 4 more weeks of 6 day workouts and I'm ready for it to be over and go down to 4 or maybe 5 days splits. Debating already about what program to do next, another MAPS, or I drunkenly bought a Jeff Nippard program. Working on the bike rides, need to some maintenance on them as I cannot remember last time I even oiled the chains. Tried doing laps in the pool too, that definitely needs work, but a nice change up. No change in weight yet. Going to have to step up the game to compete with you all.

How long have you been at it? No change in weight could be glyogen in your muscles increasing if you just started weight training

Been trying to loose weight for about a year now, started lifting more seriously about 6 months ago. I know diet hasn't been as good as it should be the past two weeks however, got to dial that back in.

You should tell her to calm down. I hear that helps.

OK, weekly update: weight-same as last week. I should switch to weighing on Wednesday. I was way down last Wednesday, but then my older boy turned 13 yesterday, so we've celebrated that all weekend. I'll go back to my regular weight-loss diet again tomorrow. Hopefully, I can turn this back around quickly.

Exercise has been OK. Tuesday was yoga/pilates, Wednesday kettlebells, Thursday 2.7 mile run, Friday weights and stretching that I've been neglecting, Friday 4.3 mile run (which is extra long for me). Yesterday was the party and I rested my old, broken body from the run the day before. I should run again today, but going out to eat for the kid's birthday dinner (was supposed to be Saturday, but ran out of time). I'll do kettlebells at home tonight instead. It's a great workout and doesn't hurt my ankles/hips like running does lately. At least my knees have been feeling good!

Anyone else using MyFitnessPal to track meals and macros? I used it a couple years ago and just got it back again …

I was losing weight and gaining muscle … but it’s really accelerated after getting the diet and macros in check. Dropping about 0.5 lbs per day now

Highly recommend

I used to use MFP, and it really helped me figure out what I needed to eat to lose weight. It's sort of a last option for me. I'm terrible with keeping up tracking that closely.

Just did my first 5 mile run! Okay, I'm using the word "run" extremely loosely, basically I was targeting high zone-2/low zone-3 (135-155 BPM for me) and I sustained it for 5 miles, and stayed above 160 for the last mile, so it was more a jog/speed walk interval thing (think 14:00-ish/mi pace, which I know for all you sexy Olympians is a joke). The point is, I tried to sustain roughly the same workload on my heart as what a decently in shape person would endure on what most people would actually call a run. I feel like I could have gone on for at least a couple more miles, but I was on lunch break.

I'm slowly working my way up to a marathon with a goal of 12:00/mi pace, and might take awhile, but at least it's something to work on. I have always had mad respect for anyone who can make it through a marathon (at any pace) and never thought I would even consider thinking about doing it, but I can see the path and now I want to be that guy!
