Picture progress update!

Before anyone says it, yes I am absolutely cheating in the second pic by wearing a shirt. I'm still very much a work in progress and I'm not going to reveal my hot summer bod just yet. I didn't take the first pic until I was about 275 (started at 295 in late Nov). Currently at around 250 (215 goal, I have a pretty large frame).

Wish i had seen this thread in January to join in, but here is a tip for those participating, ensure your protein intake is adequate for your muscle mass, it will help reaching your goals as you will not be craving processed carbs etc.

My stomach shrunk so much from not eating I can't really eat a lot so usually have a protein shake after I lift.

I never really understood how important adequate protein intake was until recently, definitely a game changer.

Went for a 1 mile PR run today and I'm pretty happy with the result. Back in early Dec I was in the mid 290s and my PR was 15:41 and that felt really hard at the time, I remember anything around 10:00 seemed like a pipe dream.

I haven't really done any 1 mile PR attempts since (lots of 5Ks, but no 1 milers) and I told myself that if I go sub-11:00 today then I'd be happy, and I hit 10:26! I'm still in the low 250s so the thought of hitting something like sub-8:00 when I'm at my goal weight is really exciting to me and actually seems obtainable. I haven't hit sub-8:00 since I was in my early 30s!

I sustained Z5 (anaerobic) for a little over 5:00. Can't wait until I shed the rest of these damn pounds, I'm totally digging running (which seems insane to say).

What's kinda funny is I did 2 miles, first mile was a warm-up, which was basically a brisk walk with a little light jogging to get the blood going, and that was a 13:58, which would have absolutely blasted me just 3 months ago!

My wife wanted to go to Golden Corral today (it's near my dermatologists office) because they have enough soft foods she can eat. I was extra good. Roast chicken, grilled fish, pot roast and veggies. No large portions, no hankering for the high calorie stuff. Looked at calories and serving sizes and stuck with it. And you know what? It was pretty good (I'd say I'm about 90% of normal taste now) and ate more slowly so I filled up without going overboard. And I wanted to focus on getting protein with as low fat content as possible.

The bitter taste has been replaced by a somewhat sour taste. But it doesn't interfere as much with the taste of food.

It's amazing how much people eat here. Three pieces of fried chicken, other half of the plate piled high with Mac and cheese, then another plate with a salad 6-8" high drowning in ranch. And you know they're going back for more...

My family calls Golden Corral the "Feeding Trough." lol Growing up, we'd always go on pay day to Sizzler. Mom and Dad could get a steak dinner plus buffet, while all of us could eat free or at a discounted rate one day out of every week for kids under 12(there was 4 of us). I'd challenge my dad every time to see who would have the bigger stack of plates before getting "full". My favorite food there was the rolls and dipping them in vanilla pudding. No wonder I turned out to be a fat ass in college, lol.

Anymore, when going to golden corral (which is maybe once a year), is a 2 plate max. First plate is salad and second plate is bourbon chicken, fried mushrooms, maybe fried shrimp, and meatloaf. I dunno what it is about that mediocre ass meatloaf, but it is always a must have.

I like it for the variety. I can have a little of multiple foods.

Welp. Had my specialist appointment today and didn't get anything that helpful. He basically told me I have mild scoliosis and to see physio cause my hips are off by a few cm. He thinks I have the start of osteoarthritis but we're not worried about that right now.

The scoliosis might be why my hips and back is constantly sore though, so perhaps I'll solve that issue lol

We also dont know why I triggered my rheumatoid factor though so 😅🤷‍♀️

I’m about to take the dog for a walk before I get the shit kicked out of me in jiujitsu for an hour

:greddy:

I did BJJ for a couple years. If you've heard of Cat Zingano, who famously got her ass absolutely handed to her by Ronda Rousey in record breaking time years ago, hah, I was trained by her husband Mauricio Zingano (RIP) in CO and that was some of the most ass kicking training I ever did! This was years ago when I could handle it better, but man I remember that shit destroying me harder than any gym workout I ever did.

I’m familiar, sad story. And yes it’s brutal. I come from a hard karate background and we do train and fight hard contact, but BJJ is just so much touch butt and up and down and up and down it’s like my cardio didn’t matter lol

I mean... you were honestly probably Over eating before, maybe now is a good time to change habits while your body is adjusting.
I wasn't gaining weight but I wasn't losing it either. When I was riding 500+ miles a month I could get away with that. I figure adding muscle will help make it easier to maintain my weight without getting too restrictive on the diet.

I remember years back ready that Arnold neglected his calves. He always wore sweats at the gym. He would pose in water to hide his calves, etc… so, to motivate himself to train valves, he cut all of his sweats so he couldn’t hide.

I’ve decided to take it to the next level. I’m only working out in underwear to make sure I look at my legs every session.

Haven’t missed a leg day in a month 😁
