If just milk, what kind?
whole milk it is then
if you're really skinny and can afford the extra fat and calories then whole milk is good. If you're clean bulking, stick to low fat milk.
Does whole milk really taste as bad as people say?
Yeah it's quite expensive as well, so don't buy say both types and try and taste test it yourself ...

Whole milk is more expensive in Australia? I think they all cost the same here. Again I never really paid attention and just grabbed 2 gallons.

skim and 1% have 9g protein per serving as opposed to the 8g in whole milk
Protein amount varies from 8-10g in whole milk, and varies the same amount in skim.
the difference between whole milk and 2% milk is a little over 1%. whole milk is like 3.**% fat. fyi.
Horizon 2% chocolate milk FTW. You can get cases at a time from Costco/BJ's.
