Martial Arts Fighting Online has confirmed that the California-based mixed martial arts fight promotion has, in fact, filed a lawsuit against Shamrock in an attempt to enforce what it maintains is an exclusive contract to promote the former UFC middleweight champion's next bout. According to documents filed with the Superior Court of California in the county of Santa Clara, West Coast Productions, the parent company of Strikeforce, received a temporary restraining order against Shamrock, whose real name is Frank Alisio Juarez III, last Monday, January 23rd after it filed a complaint stating that Shamrock had breached his contract with the promotion by agreeing to fight Renzo Gracie in the main event of February 10th's Showtime network-televised mixed martial arts fight card. The temporary restraining order mandated that Shamrock as well as any other parties involved in the Showtime card immediately cease to further promote the scheduled bout between Shamorck and Gracie until the matter could be resolved at a later date. Subsequent documents revealed that West Coast agreed to have the temporary restraining order lifted under the condition that Pro Elite, the company promoting the Showtime card, and Strikeforce attempt to resolve the issue outside of court. Should West Coast and Pro Elite not come to an agreement by next Monday, February 5th, all parties involved will return to court the following day for a hearing in which it will be determined whether or not Shamrock will be permitted to fight Gracie. On March 10th of last year, Strikeforce hosted the return of Shamrock before a sellout, record breaking crowd of 18,265 at San Jose, California's HP Pavilion, the home of the NHL San Jose Sharks. In 21 seconds, Shamrock obliterated another member of the Gracie family, Cesar Gracie, with a right hand. During Strikeforce's fight card at the HP Pavilion on Saturday, December 8th, Shamrock entered the cage in between bouts to announce that he would face rival middleweight superstar Phil Baroni, in a Strikeforce promoted showdown. Two days after he announced the fight with Baroni, Shamrock, oddly enough, showed up at a Pro Elite press conference where it was announced that he would face Gracie in the main event of the February bill.
