Do you guys have any suggestions?
Check local shops, gun shows, or maybe Shotgun News
local shops unless you have a c&r then check AIM and I/O usually have decent prices.
This would be my first firearm purchase, and I live in CA.
I remember seeing one at my local big5, looked pretty beat up tho.
Ask them to bring out a couple from the back. They are on sale regularly for $99.
Wish we had major chain stores that carried c&r's
Do you all have any tip[s on what to look for? Condition and color of ther stock, quality of the barrel?
I'm looking to pick up an enfield this weekend at the fun show, or maybe a mosin. I can't decide.
Nothing besides the usual. Make sure it isnt all mismatched. Make sure the stock isnt all beat up, or has been refinished multiple times. Check bore to make sure its nice and shiny w/ no pitting. Just an overall nice gun with atleast somewhat matching numbers
What different components of the gun will bear serial #'s?
I was thinking a mosin, but im a brit so it only seemed fitting.
And you have 303 posts.
Dont own an Enfield in particular so I dont know exactly. I always check the reciver (thats a given) The barrel, mag floorplate maybe, sometimes the stock, receiver cover.
I usually just check the externals for the numbers.
Although I did take my Garand apart after I got it to see if any parts were replaced with later war parts
All I need to replace is the rear sight, and the tiny screw on the gas cylinder and Mine will be all original
You have already made 2% of your posts in this thread alone
Indeed, i tend to lurk until it's worthwhile.
I wonder how good hte odds will be that they carry the n0.4 enfield the ww2 version.
Theyll carry one variation. I have no idea if it is WWII issue though
Be cautious when dealing with Big 5 though, the one by me doesn't have the best business practices. I went in it the night before the mosin I wanted went on sale and found 2 nice ones they had in back, came back the next morning to pick one of them up for $90 and the guy behind the counter said that there weren't any in back, all they had was the beat up trashed one on display. Luckily I convinced the guy to give me a raincheck and wouldn't you know it as soon as the sale ended the same 2 mosins showed up. Needless to say when I went to ring it up and showed them the raincheck they called over the manager who was obviously not happy but I didn't care since I got the rifle I wanted for half its normal price.
gunbroker.com search for SMLE
surplusrifle or gunboards, post a WTB for a local FTF deal.
