i heard about this on the last Joystiq podcast.

the woman interviews composers of video game music, and they talk about their process, and the mood they tried to create, and how challenging it is to write music for an interactive game.

for example - in Dead Space -
there is background music playing.
you walk up to a door, and the music is supposed to get more intense.
but then you back away, and then go back...
they have to account for the player doing things that aren't perfectly scripted.

more interesting than you'd think, gave me a new appreciation for game music.
