Someone besides Thunderbear owns.. errr owned a steyr Man Turns Gun On Himself After Accidental Shooting Posted Jun 27, 2007 by News Channel 8 Updated Jun 27, 2007 at 02:47 PM DAVENPORT - One moment, Andres Lafaurie and Luis Espitia-Castaneda were sharing an uneventful Tuesday night outside Lafaurie’s home looking at a pistol. In the next, the Polk sheriff’s office said, a bullet was lodged in Lafaurie’s spine, and his friend, Espitia-Castaneda, was dead. Detectives are calling it an accidental shooting followed by an apparent, grief-related suicide, sheriff’s spokeswoman Carrie Rodgers said. Apparently, Espitia-Castaneda, 20, was so distraught at the thought of shooting his friend in the neck that “he then turned the pistol on himself and fatally shot himself one time in the head,” Rodgers said. Based on interviews with witnesses and Lafaurie, 22, detectives think the Davenport men were standing outside Lafaurie’s Huntwicke Boulevard home looking over a Steyr 9 mm pistol about 10:45 p.m. Somehow, the gun went off, with a bullet lodging Lafaurie’s spine, Rodgers said. Just moments later, Espitia-Castaneda shot himself once in the head and was killed, Rodgers said. Lafaurie was airlifted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center. It appears that he will be paralyzed from the neck down, Rodgers said. It’s not known who owned the gun. The final cause of Luis’ death will be determined by autopsy, but Rodgers said all indicators point to a self-inflicted wound. Neither man has any record of arrest in Polk County, Rodgers said. Florida sure seems to have alot of idiots.
