Im new to photography, just got my digital rebel xt 2 months ago with the kit lens. Im slowly learning things as I go, mainly from trail and error... as well as reading as many tutorials and faqs as possible. One thing that keeps bugging me is I cant seem to get a white balance that I like. I try to use the custom setting as much as possibly, by shooting a piece of white paper under the lighting conditions, but I still get mixed results. I just started shooting in raw mode, and that gives me more flexibility in the post-processing stage, but id rather achieve a proper (or as close to proper) with the camera itself. Here are some examples of the white balance Id like to achieve. They are all from this guy's flickr page http://www.flickr.com/photos/spastica/ you can view the exif data there I also really liked the white balance on ok_computer's VW photo shoot ( http://forums.offtopic.com/showthread.php?t=2800155 ) maybe im mixing up terms, maybe its not the white balance at all, but all of my pics just look boring, like they were taken with a point and click camera. Im guessing is probably has a lot to do with the bland lighting in most of my pics. I'm also using a laptop to edit pics, so gauging proper brightness/contrast is nearly impossible... Here are some of my pics for reference. nevermind the poor mis en scene, cropping, lack of subjects, etc... http://www.planbattack.org/pics/100806/ http://www.planbattack.org/pics/090506/ http://www.planbattack.org/pics/090606/ http://www.planbattack.org/pics/090706/Img_0473.jpg http://uploader.ws/upload/200610/robot_2.jpg any help is appreciated!
