is there a quality difference between hdmi and component cables?
yes. hdmi is much higher quality picture.
Not always. Depending on the quality of the display, the difference can be minimal.
Think of it this way, HDMI is straight digital to digital. Component requires a conversion from digital to analog, then back to digital once it reaches the display. So, there is more opportunity to degrade the image over component.
I've heard, heard being a keyword, that hdmi can look to sharp and pixelated, where the lower quality of component will smooth out the pixels.
they both look the same on my display
considering that both can handle up to 1080p, it's up to you
hdmi does allow for hdcp, i don't think component will do that
