I moved to Israel about a month ago, and decided to try out Krav Maga here, in Netanya (as far as I know, it is the place for a civilian to learn Krav Maga). I dabbled in it about a year (or more?) ago at a little McDojo in the Bay Area, but I didn't learn too much. Today was my first day, in the beginner class. Since I Never Back Down (Optamix, I should have taken your thread to heart) I picked out the biggest guy in the class to spar with. He opened with a roundhouse kick to the head. I almost held my own for a little bit, and then, while ducking with my mouth open, he straight up Leonidas kicks me in the face. I took it like a man, but now I can't close my mouth all the way. After that, we had a few rounds of ground work. I threw the big guy around like a red headed step child, and then switched partners, rinsed, and repeated. They were really good sports about it, too. Since they were beginners, I'll let the fact that none of them could wrestle for shit slide, but I hope the level of ground game picks up in the more advanced classes. No Jack Bauer shit yet, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.
