HIIT Cardio training

    ok, so i've been doing cardio for about a month MWF. 6mph run for about 2 miles.

    Problem is that when i get out and play sports with my friends i notice that my long term cardio endurance is great. BUT short term bursts, like when playing football, kills me. I recover fast, but the very fast and harsh demand for energy drains the hell out of my body.

    Should I be doing HIIT Cardio on like:
    week1 HIIT: W
    week2 HIIT: MF
    week3 HIIT: W
    etc... (obviously regular running/jogging on normal training days)

    or should I just run my ass off all the time? lol
