between me and my roommate we are looking to drop a decent sum on a home entertainment system (1000-1500). We've looked at some TVs and i think we have one picked out but we really don't know shit about home audio so I thought some people here could give me some tips on what I want to look for when checking on the stereo systems.

Sounds like 1500 includes the television.

It really depends on how nice a system you want, you should also be familiar with the different DVD sound formats like DTS, Digital, 6.1, etc.

Websites like www.crutchfield.com are chock full of great technical information you should probably know.

If you're looking for good audio equipment, take the time to do research. You are trying to get the best value for the money, and there is LARGE profit stores make on audio especially speakers. So take your time and above all work to get the best deal.
