Police were investigating whether the 56-year-old man was definitely involved in a house raid just before he was viciously attacked. The 56-year-old was found with serious head injuries and rushed to hospital before being transferred to a specialist neurological unit where his condition was described as 'critical'. Officers arrested a 22-year-old Brazilian man on suspicion of assaulting the alleged burglar. Detectives are trying to piece together exactly what happened during the incident at 1pm in Bournemouth, Dorset, yesterday. A Dorset Police spokesman said: 'Police were called to Derby Road in Bournemouth with a report of an assault. 'The man was taken by ambulance to Poole Hospital and later that day transferred to Southampton Hospital's neurological intensive care unit. He confirmed detectives were investigating reports that the injured man may have been responsible for a burglary that had occurred before the assault.
