Is it gonna hamper my strength in the long run as opposed to using regular squat rack?
also its pretty bad for your knees
the smith machine locks you into a set range of motion. to do a proper squat you need to be able to move out of that set range of motion
Yeah, I just googled it. Basically the Smith puts you in just an unnatural range of motion? I can understand why its bad for your knees too because it seems like I always have to stick my feet out further than my knees while doing them. Thanks for the help.
And do you guys know of any other leg workouts that are good for explosion?
I don't want to become a bodybuilder as much as I do a better athlete. I worked out with a buddy of mine who plays baseball and he had me do (for the first time :rofl) power cleans and one legged bodyweight squats. Anything else that would help with speed, etc?
is there ANY reason to use the smith machine? i dont understand its purpose
do box jumps
and weighted human flags
lulz dude, incline smith bench is fuckin boss, its also goddamn boss for military. its also boss as fuck for one legged squats.
Dont listen to any of these fuckers. Many huge BBers use the Smith for squats.
what are these?
no way i can do that
the squat snatch/clean will get you moving fast.
jay cutler uses a smith machine for squats
but im more worried about becoming faster/more explosive. i feel like logically it only makes sense for me to use squat rack especially if it works more stabilizer muscles.
Recently started doing over head shrugs in the smith machine after behind the head military - sick.
Use a normal cage for squats then... you would be better to focus on Olympic lifting for power and speed if you are trying to supplement your training for a sport in the weight room.
Its terrible for your back because of what Jonno said. It locks you into an unnatural position. Just because a handful of bodybuilders use them for squats doesn't mean shit.
Get out of the smith and put a real bar on your back.
Of course a powerlifter is gonna say this. Jk
I disagree, only to the point that I think the Smith Machine has its place in a BBers routine. Of course standard barbell squats should be your mainstay, not the smith squat but I do think it has its uses
calve raises, incline smith, seated military, and when I superset something with front squats
other than that, I never use the smith for back squats
I agree. Get out of the smith for anything and put real weight in your hand.
to each their own, dude. if someones training for hypertrophy and not powerlifting and this works BETTER for that single reason then why shouldnt they train on it?
how would it be better?
Shits faggy as hell for straight up squats, its a tool, not a replacement for squats, why the fuck are you faggots so insistent...
You need to squat, use the smith machine for what its made for, accessory shit, you fags are not 40 year old bodybuilders, or whatnot, be non tarded, please.
