two 8800 GTX and an am2 4600.
Build is for my roomate who's on a budget?
a single 8800GTX will consume about 12-15 amps, (145-180 Watts), double that for SLI.
AMD 4600, about 7.5A (89W)
drives and shit, est about 10A (120W)
you will need at least a 600W PSU with 40+ amps total on the +12V rail.
but also note that 2 8800GTXs will require 4 PCI-E Power connectors.
most 600W PSUs only has 2 PCI-Es, so this will force you to look at the 750W and above models.
Just a thought. He's on a budget and wants 2 8800GTX cards.
They run about $300-400 each, right?
Why not get a GTX260 or GTX280? Just one of either one of them should perform just as well as 2 8800GTX cards. Even a single nVidia 9800 GX2 would be better.
the 8800GTX was already discontinued (but still in stock on some stores).
I was thinking they already have one of the cards, and is looking for another to SLI.
