I dl'd the version of vlc media player for tiger, and its listed as a drive. What's going on?
the program should be inside the drive. just drag the program over to the application folder and eject the drive then delete the .dmg
when i first got my mac, I thought that was weird too.
But thats how you download programs on a mac, all you do is drag the application icon into the Application folder. Quite easy actually.....
some will be inside a mounted drive and some will just write themselves to the desktop ( or wherever you have your downloaded files go). Like its been said, just drag it to the applications folder and you're done.
if the clarification is of any edification to you, many mac programs come in the form of a compressed disk image, instead of, say, zipped. It's just another way of bundling the app. Now that OS X has zip capability built-in you'll probably see equal amounts of .zip and .dmg packages, but .dmg has been supported since 10.0 and that's pretty much been the standard since.
