reference this thread for information on why I need to know http://forums.offtopic.com/showthread.php?t=3671743

Basically I have a gun I need to find out if it's registered or unregistered. I have no idea how to go about this in a discrete manner. On the Glock Serial Number Research List, the alpha block isn't even listed. So does that mean it's a high chance it's an unregistered gun?

edit: also another question for people that know guns well. I just remembered this while checking out my glock... I don't recall on the top of the barrel that is visible in the ejection port of the slide that any of the metal finish has been rubbed off due to firing. On my g19, which only has about 400 rounds through it, the top of the barrel, the finish is rubbed off in a line from firing. I'd assume this would be common of all handguns that have been fired... is it? I mean the insides are so clean it almost screams it hasn't been fired, and if I recall on the gun I'm trying to figure out about... there was no finish issues on the slide.

Call the PD and say something like, "I have recently come into possession of a Firearm through a private party (or I am thinking of purchasing, you get the idea) and would like to confirm that it has not been reported stolen"

if it is the father's gun it should have bee reported stolen and the serial number should have been reported to the police. Its probably in the database.
