very little engine experience. I know it's carburated and it ran last year but dude has had it sitting for a year and says it won't run now. For 500 with the plastics ready to be painted I think it would be a great bike for me to learn some motorcycle mechanics and once running, a nice learner for my GF too.

Chances are it probably just needs the carbs pulled and cleaned. Sounds like a good place to start. (although something with less cylinders may prove a bit easier to work on... less carbs to sync, etc)
