Do you just want to change the image? If so just trade out the ico with the one you want to use. Should be in the root folder of the site.

If you need and easy way to "make" a new one with another image use this: http://www.chami.com/html-kit/services/favicon/

Sometimes it won't change for YOU, but everyone who visits the site new will see the new one.

Try in a diff browser once you made the change to be sure.

the favicon.ico can also be placed/removed from the root folder of your web directory.

no need for <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/images/favicon.ico"> anymore besides legacy browsers
