replace a heatsink? im thinking about upgrading, is it possible?
If you take all the necessary precautions, totally.
Simple operation, I just upgraded my northbridge fan, simple.
Remember to keep grounding yourself, take your time and choose your new fan wiesly.
what's the best new heatsink on the market?
u got the steps on how to do so
Depends on processor - newer ones have little latches that you just undo and the heatsink pops up. There is also a thermal paste that goes along with most processor/heatsink combos, if any is left behind when removing the old heatsink I'd leave it.
The paste transfers heat from the processor to the heatsink.
What processor are you using?
If its a P4 heatsink that mounts through mobo, very easy
AMD processor with clip design, still fairly easy. Just get a screwdriver with a small blade
Something else clip, see above
