i got pc overheating-phobia
my laptop stays on all day without any problems. every couple weeks i'll use compressed air can to blow out the dust from the fans and vents, makes a difference if you've never done it before
My iBooks' record uptime is 18days. During that time the closes it's come to being off was closing it, sleeping.
I usually turn it off when I'm not going to use it for awhile( > an hour). So I end up turning it on/off 3-4 times a day.
laptops usually on from morning to the time i go to bed on weekends. i use it for a about 2 hours at school. i always turn it off at night though. my desktops on from about 4-11 on weekdays, morning to time i go to bed (usually around 12-2) on weekends.
Mine stays on for days at a time. Won't hurt it unless it has a subpar cooling solution.
only reboot for patches, installs, and video driver crashes (gah!)
my desktop and laptop are both always on.
i never turn mine off...
Turn mine off when not in use.
My Gateway laptop was for a long time, used as an additional desktop computer... it was on for a good 3 months, only being rebooted for updates. I often played CS:S or encoded HDTV streams to XviD and never had any cooling problems.
i turn off my laptops when not using them (meaning i'm going to sleep). i leave them on if i am just putting it away for a few hours
Define leaving the laptop on. With mine (work laptop), I put it in sleep mode over night so it is not really on. I normally take the laptop home with me over the weekend so I at least really turn it off at least once a week.
I hibernate mine when I'm carrying it from place to place. When it's at home, it's on 24/7 and running [email protected] so its processor stays at full voltage and full utilization all the time. I have it on an Antec cooling pad to make sure I keep some air moving in there, but I haven't had any issues yet.
My PC is always on.. uptime at the moment is like over 90 days.. Laptop is only on when I need it (unless I'm using mains power.. then it's on all the time)
my powerbook stays on/in sleep mode until i absolutely need to restart it, usually about 15-20 days.
Usually every 4-5 days it gets restarted/rebooted.
24/7. when its at home, its pluged in and charged. when im working, its pluged into my car. Only time i reboot is to install/update software.
Ive had it for about a year also. I sould probally use some compressed air on it though.
Compressed air ftl
Leaf blower ftw
EDIT: POST 999!
when I was using it, I'd leave it on for weeks at a time.
my 'desktop' is basically a server, its setup in the closet right now. my laptop is on my desk.
the 'desktop' only turns off during a power failure or a software issue
laptop only turns off when i'm taking it out of the room somewhere.
I'm the same way. I keep my PowerBook G4 on for weeks, but just let it sleep in between using it.
