Don't they sell like 1000 per year? vs the vette
what about ferraris? or lambos? or bentlys?
its prolly cause they have a pretty large following, and even tho not all the followers can afford one, they know that some will buy
same question about mercury, why are they still around if all tehy are doing is selling fords?
its a status vehicle
Viper has already surpass selling 1,000 units at the end of May for this year.
Lamborghini makes less than 100 Diablos per year. They should be out of business by your logic.
you can easily pick up a 5-6 year old one... they depreciate pretty quick.
um, there is a brand new version of the viper out this summer. new engine, new bodywork, new alot of other stuff.
they sell well enough. There are probly just as many vipers sold per year as supras were sold per year if not many more.
dodge loses money on each viper sold.
for the record i saw a new silver viper on LI the other day, its pretty awesome, but doesn't have the presence of the older style ones.
they still are not cheap.
most cars with a documented history and sold locally are in the $43-$50k range depending on year for the 94-97 cars. 98+ get a premium and the early cars are junk but hold at about $38k.
either way, you could buy a brand new vette for what you could pay for a 8 year old viper.
they dont depreciate much more than an NSX except for their initial depreciation. the depreciation associated with titleing the car and driving it off the lot.
But there's a lot of similar styling elements. Oh, and the new Viper is designed by a Japanese ex-Toyota designer, who was responsible for the Camry and Corolla designs.
yeah whats up with that. seen one in person too, and they look better in person, but christ almighty the old viper coupes looked hellishly mean.
im saw the pics of the new viper in hardtop form for racecars only. looks much better.
The Vette is pretty much a mass produced car, just like the Mustangs and the stuff of the like.
more volume = cheaper price = lots of units sold.
Now they only make like 600 or so vipers a year.....Now they have taken the exotic approach. Even though the production costs are high, they are making less, so they can sell them for a higher price due to the demand due from exclusivity.
Owners also get great resale values when they're less units of a car. And it shows. $30k will get me a high-mileage 92 Viper (which are scarce), but 30k will get me a arguably decent mileage 99-00' C5.
in short: less volume = usually greater demand = increase in price (compared to vette) = less potential buyers, but @ 85k, you're getting a lot more off per unit than a Vette.
none of the vipers really do it for me.
I see them and think
what a POS
viper is a tribute to the fucking shelby cobras of the 60s. big engine in a little roadster. the s2000 is a tribute to the fucking s800 which was a little motorbike engine in a little roadster. they had their similarities then and they have their similarities now.
It's crazy how many looks the Viper gets. If I'm driving a '95 RT-10 I get 324325 x the looks / compliments than driving a '03 Z06, even tho the Z cost more.
The old Viper maybe, but the new Viper is clearly not. Look at the lines and shape of the headlamps, the hood, the mirrors, and even the stance. It's clearly not that 'tribute to the fucking shelby cobras of the 60s'. It's designed by an Japanese dude for goodness sake.
I'll have what he's drinking please.
yeah.... so it was designed by a Japanese guy... therefore with a japanese style. This doesn't mean that it was copied from the S2000.
I'd take a vette over a viper any day...
the viper runs way too fucking hot for my liking, and I don't exactly like the feeling of all that heat under my feet, or being able to cook an entire breakfast on the side pipes...
plus, its much easier to mod an LS6 by yourself than it would ever be to mod the v10
fuck their shitty engines
and fuck how they look too for that matter
I didn't say it was copied, but probably 'inspired'.
it more or less was...
the lines are the same, the headlights and frontend are similar, the back end is similar... and they both suck about the same
