    I've tried everything! Help!

    Specs are

    Windows XP
    Media Center Edition
    Version 2002
    Service Pack 2

    1.8 GHz
    2 gigs of ram

    It has a DVD burner.

I've updated it the best I can, whenever I put a DVD in the light flashes for a moment, then it stops and when I go to the disk drive from My Computer I just get an empty folder. When I try to play it with Windows Media Player or Media Center, it just tells me that there's no DVD in the drive. Any suggestions?

If it's an HP, must have the lightscribe option. If you check your services.msc & see LightScribeService Direct Disc Labeling Service not labeled "Automatic" under "Startup Type", that might be the problem.
I had that problem with my HP Lightscribe burner not reading CDs/DVDs until I changed it from "Manual" to "Automatic".

one optical head, two separate lasers or one dual-mode laser diode. (there should be another one for Lightscribe if that HP supports it)
the one for dvd could be fucked.
