“I think the next 10 years is when crypto has to transform into something that is not based on promises of being useful in the future but is actually useful,” he said. Because a lot of applications are promising in theory, but they’re just completely not viable because of scaling issues today,” he said.

We’re not talking about targeted ads for funko pop dolls here dude
To FB it's literally the same thing. Big data doesn't give a flying fuck about you as an individual, and will sell you up the river if it means they can talk up about how they cooperate with LE to catch criminals.

Which is why normalizing mass data collection by organizations like FB and TikTok are horrible ideas to begin with.

People are voluntarily providing their info to make these companies billions of dollars, and the example with the Nebraska Police is just a single, small example of what's in store for everyone in the future if we don't reel in the amount of data that we're exposing on social media. Shit's fucked.

The fact that people are going to read that story about FB providing info to the police and then immediately go log onto their preferred social media platform to complain about it just illustrates how fucked people are.

The headline in the original screengrab itt is a tad misleading as well

telling people to just stop using social media is asking them to go back to 1990s communication wise. you are cutting yourself off from a great deal of social interaction

We could also do things like not have terrible laws and overturn things like Roe V Wade.

The point is that at any point in the future, behavior you’re engaging in or discussing now, which is stored on these servers indefinitely, could be provided to a third party for the sake of targeting you for something
sure, although wiretaps have existed for the last 50+ years, and the phone company has tracked phone records since we had automated systems. And before that, the operator could tell the cops that they connected you to Wild Bill on the night the girl was murdered.
