Basically, I don't have a lot of friends, and the few that I do have are all girls. I want some bros, but I'm unsure on how to proceed. Any tips, suggestions, etc from anyone who has been in a similar situation?

What kinds of hobbies do you have?

If you enjoy sports, have you ever thought of striking up a conversation with someone at a sports bar?

Shit is hard. I'm with you. I've managed to get some close guy friends again recently, but none that seem like they'd be my Best Man. :o Anyway the thing that has worked for me is to find some sort of social network and jump in. Join a writer's group, a political organization, a sports team- whatever.

Nope. Which sucks because it's the easiest route.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. How do I find that type of stuff, though? Craigslist? Meetup.com or whatever the fuck site that is? I just don't know where to go. Shit was easier when I was in school.

Meetup.com might be good. It's hit or miss depending on your area and what you're into, but it's probably the best singular resource online for finding social groups to get involved in (aside from google :mamoru:).

What kind of shit are you into? Do you have any problems? 12-step meetings are a good place to meet people.:o

:werd: I was actually thinking martial arts or something similar like Parkour (well relatively similar anyway :mamoru:). I too would avoid online social stuff as much as possible as more often than not it's just a way for you to spin your wheels. You're better off hanging out at a local coffee shop, taking a trapeze class, or pretty much anything else that gets you around other people. There are tons of possibilities really.

    It pays to have hobbies.

Join clubs. Automotive hobbies are an easy way to start.

We have a local paper (not really news) here that usually lists events, clubs, social gathering type stuff for the month. I'm sure you have something close in your area. worth a look.

Do any of your female friends have guy friends? If so, you could try that. I have a lot of female friends too, and I've met a couple guys that way.

I'm just going to throw this out there but I'd check your local bowling alley(s) to see if/when they run leagues and if any teams could use an extra player. 1) You don't actually have to be good at it because of the handicap. 2) It's a good excuse to go out and drink and 3) You'll make plenty of friends in no time.
We had a guy who's in town on business for a year do this and we were a man down and he's one of the coolest "old" guys I've ever met.

 my best girl friend asked me last night if the Superbowl was this coming weekend and I said I didn't know. She gave me a "whatthefuck???" look and told me I need to shape up. I said "Bitch, you need to shape up and get your mouth around my penis." Then we laughed. Cool chick best friend > *

wow, this thread now makes so much more sense :o

on topic though, uhh i just came back from a semester abroad, add that on top of a summer, i havent seen all my college buddies since last june.

needless to say, things have CHANGED, people went their own ways, got new friends, formed new cliques, etc etc and i'm pretty much left stranded by myself.

i've been calling people up and seeing which group of my original friends i could click back most with. sad concept really.

Wait, have you always been Australian?

I saw all this "mate" talk in your post and then looked at your location and it said Aussie Aussie Aussie.
