What's the best brand but yet affordable ( I'm hoping to spend 200 max ) out there to buy?
It's a lost cause ... none of you people pay attention anyways...
i havent used mine in 4 months
I got a NEC 8x +r / 4x -r DVDRW for $153.
it's fasssstttt, works perfectly to. I got if from ewiz.com but you could prolyl get it from newegg or zipzoomfly easily
You can get a TDK 8x for under $200 that is the best IMO. I have a Buslink(Lite-On) 4x that I got for $99.
i have a pioneer a06...... hoping for a firmware update for dual layer
that will require new drive electronics and technology...
to read is one thing... but to write is another...
I'm waiting for dual layer.. by then, the Plextor's will be $99
Pioneer has demonstrated dual layer burning during the CES, the technology exhibition in Las Vegas. The company succeeded recording to two layers DVD-R in October 2003 and now firstly publicly demonstrated the technology. In the booth of the RWPPI (RW Products Promotion Initiative) they wrote 100 MB to each layer. The discs were read back by a normal DVD player.
Intresting however is that the company used a Pioneer A06 burner with only a modified firmware. According to the company only a firmware modification is needed in order to make a DVD-R drive write dual layer discs. The disc was written at 2 speed. The DVD-R dual layer specifications have not yet been passed by the DVD Forum.
Actually Pioneer was able to flash the firmware on the A06 to make it capable of recording Dual layer... The display at CES was a flashed A06 however, it remains to be seen whether or not Pioneer will release this update to the public... Also you aren't wrong is some respects due to laser strength/power... If the laser isn't powerful enough on specs then it won't be possible for a firmware update..
Problem is... since no other drive to date is designed to read that type of DVD-R-DL format, only the a06 will read it..
home dvd players will not so what's the point?
* Demonstration of 2 layer record of DVD-R which used pioneer and A06
The booth of RWPPI
In 2003 October, the pioneer which succeeds in the development of 2 layer record technology of DVD-R does the demonstration which plays back the DVD-R disk of 2 layer which was drawn up with the booth of the same company, with the usual DVD player. In addition, RW products promotion initiative (RWPPI) with the booth, it displayed the drive whose 2 layer entry is possible, demonstrated to playback from entry.
As for the drive which is used for entry "DVR-A06" of the same company. You say that with same ones as the commercial item, by the fact that just the firmware is modified in individual ones, without remodelling mechanism and the like inside, 2 layer record is possible. Furthermore, 2 layer record is not decided yet with the forum, there is no schedule and the like of release of the firmware.
With demonstration the data of 100MB in the layer is written 0 and the layer 1 respectively. At that time, entry to of the layer 0 ending, when you look at the record aspect of the disk, just the data quantity color of the track/truck has changed. After that, entry to of the layer 1 ending, there is no change in the range of the track/truck which changes color. From this, the layer 0 repeating to 1, it is found that you write. Furthermore, recording rate has reached 2 times.
With demonstration drawing up 6 chapters. 1 - 3 in layer 0, 4 - 6 layer 1. By the fact that chapter is selected, it can look at the optional layer. Furthermore, as for the DVD-R disk of 2 layer which was drawn up, in the player of the pioneer usual DVD video in the same way viewing possibility. "In the player of the other manufacturer you do not verify to the fact that standard is not decided partly due,, but you say that it can play back with most players without problem,".
actually if you read the link thats imbedded in the first article from cdfreaks.com, they demonstrated they disc being used on a stand alone dvd player
yea, I've only used Pioneer drives and they've released ALOT of patches to firmware and drives to turn down the outputs on the heads to stop the cause of burnouts cause people were having problems...
I doubt this will be a public release... especially since they only did it twice during the show...
according to guys over at vcdhelp.com that went there, it was brand new "special" Pioneer Home Theater DVD player....
DVD-R/DL is not a standard
sadly i believe this to be true plus it was only at 2x
