It would be perfect.
When do you actually USE firewire 800?
to ensure the fastest throughput with external drives ... firewire 400 comes close, but with external raid, you could surpass the 400 max
I bought the 15" PB and I am using a FW 800 external drive. I've also used FW 800 to grab video off my friend's HD camcorder. All I can say is it's speedy.
I notice a difference running my FW 800 drive compared to the USB 2 one I have. But admittedly, the difference when opening files (even 80M PDFs or larger files) or really doing anything on the FW 800 is not that much (compared to the other drive).
You have to have a FW800 enabled drive for that tho. Yea, it will be faster, but not many people use it except in a large storage environment.
You just need the FW800 compatible enclosure...anyway......
