what would it be. Mine would be the 300 wsm. Just curious what everyone else's would be.
Rifle - .308 Win
Pistol - .45 ACP
Well if it's absolutely, just one caliber then I would have to say 10mm or .357 mag depending on whether you like autos or revolvers. Either is a great pistol cartridge, and can be hunted with. Both are also available in some nice carbines (AR's for 10mm, lever guns for the .357). This way you can still have a pistol for concealed carry if necessary, and have a fairly powerful carbine for a long gun. I'd take the 10mm since I prefer AR's and semi-auto pistols.
If you're allowing both a pistol and a rifle, then I'd go with 9mm and .223. Both light and portable, affordable, there tons of loads available, they are effective enough to handle my needs (self defense, plinking, and the game in my area), and available in a lot of good platforms.
I never thought about including a pistol, but i guess mine would be .357 mag. if i had to choose one.
Well I originally thought of this question in terms of rifles, so I will pick .308
But if we are talking about any kind of gun, i would choose a 12ga
5.56 NATO. why a pistol caliber? why?
So you can have a pistol. I looked at it from the perspective of "What caliber can I choose that will allow me to do the most". The typical game in my area are small Blacktail deer, and most shots are under 100yds ... they can be taken with a 10mm. It will be a decent round for home defense out of a carbine, and still allow you to carry concealed. Of course a rifle caliber would be more capable for a lot of these things, but if you really only have one caliber you couldn't have a pistol (not counting some oddball thing like the OA-98, that you really couldn't CCW anyway).
i want a bazooka
hell, i'll switch to 22mm for my rifle caliber, and .308 for my pistol caliber (thompson contender anyone?).
After my own heart.....
5.56mm for my rifle/pistol calibre (Encore Contender)(AR-15)
12 GA. For my shotgun calibre.(870)
20MM anti aircraft gun, welded to the roof of my pickup.
It would really depend on where I was at the moment...if I was in Oklahoma it would be a 12ga shotgun...if I was here in Montana it would be a .270. In Oklahoma I could hunt deer, birds, squirrels, rabbits, whatever I wanted to basically with a 12ga. In Montana you really can't hunt deer with a 12ga, you can't get close enough. But with the .270 I could hunt anything from deer to antelope to elk.
