What kind of ammo should I buy for it?
but I'm in an apartment with people literally surrounding me in every direction. Wouldn't birdshot be more responsible?
that's a waste. if you care enough to shoot the badguy, you care enough to shoot the neighbor for being there.
Ha. All cops should be so leanient.
Birdshot may not penetrate enough to stop the threat.
If you don't get penetration (hit a vital structure) you won't incapacitate your attacker.
But my apartment is pretty small. Any shot would only be a matter of feet, so at such a close range, would not birdshot be more effective than commonly thought?
bird shot would definitely fuck someone up without over penetrating. perhaps a smaller buckshot would also be appropriate
Birdshot would create a nasty wound, but do you really want to risk it not going deep enough?
Even #4 buck would be better than birdshot. I'd prefer somthing a bit larger.
you've got to shoot to stop, not shoot to hurt
Please don't post such bad information.
Bird shot tends to not penetrate deep enough. You will seriously only wound the guy. If he is one of those types that doesn't feel pain well or happens to be on drugs, he may take that 20ga and shove it right up your ass.
Shoot to stop, and when using a shotgun for this purpose, use buckshot.
my apologies... would i like to get shot with birdshot from 10 feet away? no thanks. buckshot? no thanks.
i know birdshot may not penetrate enough, that is why i recomended a buckshot after talking about birdshot.
You obviously don't know that birdshot won't penetrate enough.
You recomended it to the guy saying it would fuck someone up. If it doesn't get deep enough, it may not fuck them up. It may just piss them off. I don't want some loser who may be whacked out on who knows what coming after me because I just sprayed him with tiny lead pellets. Saying smaller buckshot may also be appropriate is misleading. It is appropirate as long as that also doesn't point to birdshot.
OK, Spicy I'm gonna say this one more time. Don't use birdshot. If the person is a threat to your life, you should use the round that will be the most effective. Buckshot is what you want in this case. I would also suggest that you take a course teaching you the proper ways of deploying a shotgun for defense. These go above and beyond your typical safety course and really have valuble info in them.
http://www.oregonfirearmsacademy.com/courses/shotgun.htm is a great example of some of the more inexpensive ones out there.
