i need a laptop for under $750. i have no idea where to start. any ideas?
raise your budget, then go to www.lenovo.com
Dell... Check out gotapex.com for coupon codes...
i've narrowed it down to three:
i'll be adding 1gb of memory to whatever one i get. leaning towards the first link. what do you guys think?
You pretty much get what you pay for at the low end. If you're lucky.
I understand that, but my budget is limited right now... and I need something.
First post on http://www.slickdeals.net/
Dell SB: Inspiron 640m Dual Core T2080, 1GB DDR2, 120GB HDD, DVDRW, WiFi, 9-Cell Battery, 14.1" WXGA LCD, Vista Home Basic or XP Home $549
$40 to upgrade to a Core Duo.
should i get xp or vista? never used vista...
I doubt any cheap machines will have the power and especially memory to run Vista properly. Get XP unless you get a machine with 2GB of memory.
It's Vista Home Basic, you really don't need 2GB of memory. Though I would personally side with XP.
thats what i've been hearing. but i heard basic is just an upgraded version of xp?
Basic is still Vista, which is a totally new OS despite some people saying its just a GUI change. Vista is more different from XP than XP was from 2000. Basic just removes a bunch of features like the Aero interface and the media center stuff.
I'd still want a gig though. I had the displeasure of setting up a Vista Basic computer with 512MB of memory once and it felt like XP does on 128. Not pretty.
I went with vista... i think it will be fine. it has 1gb of memory.
You can always upgrade the RAM later.
i plan to at some point
