I haven't tried it on my PB, but in the PC world if you want to sniff packets you have to get your NIC (either wired or wireless) to go into what is commonly called "promiscuous mode". A properly functioning NIC will ignore packets it recieves that are not addressed to it (in the ethernet world, this is done based on MAC address), but in order to make packet sniffing worthwhile you have to look at every packet.
Apple doesn't release information on how to access raw packets through its driver. Nobody has hacked the Apple wireless cards yet. So... get a USB card that is listed in those supported by KisMAC, and then it will work.
ive gotten ethereal to work just fine using the airport card.
Right, sorry. You can scan for wireless networks, you just can't crack WEP.
well, i'm new to cracking wep keys and haven't even done it on win/linux machine. so i'm not certain what goes a long with doing it. however, i've got no problems sniffing packets on networks i'm allowed on.
