I'm not sure what everyone else’s take on the subject is, but with my battalion the deployment rate is killing any possible desire for Marines who may want to re-enlist. Majority of us have 5 year contracts, and 99% of the time the battalion retains us and you will not receive orders to another unit unless you re-up. Now in addition to this we are on a constant 7 month rotation. 7 months deployed, 5 months back in CONUS. Every year you miss the same holidays and probably some loved ones birthdays as well as just the time spent with loved ones and friends. One of our companies as a matter of fact has not had a single person re-up in 3-4 years. It is comprised of all new Marines and lat-movers and continues to be that way with no changes being made. Everyone is fed up with this deployment schedule. This rotation is just burning people out quicker than they can be trained. Is everyone else on the year long tour?
