in for carrying to and from work in Washington DC every day, and when I visit friends in Maryland
While I love the concept and would personally benefit from the bill becoming law, I am not a fan at all of the federal government telling states what to do.
Ill have to read the full text tomorrow, unless it can been seen as a clarification of the 2nd, I'm going to be torn on this one.
anytime the feds tell the states to be more free and respect the constitution, I am all for it.
I mean fuck, it doesn't exactly happen often.
This. I think getting the fed involved with concealed carry is playing with fire.
If it were a clarification of the second amendment and tell all states that the second applied to concealed carry, I would say that it would be alright, but since as I read the full text this only applies to states that allow concealed carry being forced to accept permits from other states that allow concealed carry I can't see this as the feds telling the states to respect the constitution.
This is very true. While I like the idea of this bill, it is kind of a chance for them to say "well we are in charge of giving concealed rights, now we can take them away"
I would guess this is really a clarification of the faith/credit act rather than anything 2A but it's still weapon related so it's a dangerous game.
i'm pretty sick of my kansas permit not being recognized by Iowa next door to the north. its nice that missouri and Kansas recognize each other but i still have to go to iowa a few times a year damn it
anytime the fed gov even looks towards gun laws i get nervous, it would be nice if they made it better for a change instead of worse but i sure won't be holding my breathe, fucking obama would never let that shit happen wouldn't this just be something he'd veto the hell out of if it ever made it out of congress?
$50 it won't make it to BHO's desk and signed
1 round of 10mm then
This bill doesn't have a prayer of passing with a Democrat supermajority and Obama in the White House.
I a inclined to agree with this, but it's worth keeping in mind that some of those Dems are the ones fighting our case right now... I don't mean Pelosi's "enforce the laws we have" comment, I mean there are some Dems out there who are actually pro-gun and a lot of them are not sticking with the party line right now with all the sweeping socialist reform.
I know there are plenty of blue-dog democrats that are pro-gun, but I would be more than a little surprised to see enough of them to pass a bill. Furthermore, BHO would take this bill and wipe his ass with it on national TV before he'd sign it. I'd be floored if congress mustered a veto override on this one.
Could call it a part of the Full Faith and Credit clause that "forces" states to recognize countless other legal instruments and arrangements from other states. Not sure what to think of it myself though.
saw this on cnn today
I agree whole heartedly. Let the states govern themselves.
If it were based on the 2nd amendment, it would repeal all gun control laws, including permit requirements.
It has to be based on interstate commerce, reading "commerce" as interaction rather than buying and selling.
This is a reasonable use of federal power, and for a good cause.
It'll never pass, though.
When the states aren't governing themselves in accordance with the constitution (and even their OWN constitutions), I'm fine with the fed overriding.
this will never happen in the united states of obama
damn it would be nice though
Emailed both of my Senators, if it helps.
