to own an Army surplus 1911? I don't think so, but I couldn't find any through google for sale?

Depends, I know older military 1911's didn't have serial #'s, so no. But as long as it has a serial # I don't see why not.
even if it doesnt have a serial, you can still buy it. (so long as it came that way from the factory).
oh, i thought you had to have a serial # to register it.
A serial number is sort of required on the ATF paperwork, but there's no official national registration that I know of. State registration, perhaps...
Older weapons manufactured without them are exempt..
Although you need to have proof that they were made without them.
AFAIK, all that has to happen if there is no serial is that how it is accounted for by the FFL has to be consistant (but only within that FFL's paperwork, not across FFLs)
