Is this a realistic goal?

    Yesterday I played basketball with a group of friends for the first time in about 8 months. Since I stopped playing last I hit the gym 3 times a week working on legs 1 day a week. I'm 5 foot 10 and after trying to touch the rim of the 10 foot goal yesterday I noticed I was only about half an inch for actually touching it. I'm going to college and 5 months and thought it would be pretty impressive going to the rec center, playing ball, and dunking it at my height. So do you guys actually think it's a realistic and possible goal to increase my vertical by probably 5 inches? (assuming that's what I will need to get the ball over the rim and dunk). If so, do you know of any good workout that increase your vertical?

    1. Cut body fat as much as you can.
    2. Squats/Deadlifs
    3. You may gain 5 inches but it's much harder to actually dunk. 5 inches will let you dunk a perfect alley-oop but I doubt you will be able to dunk on your own.

    I'm already too skinny, so number 1 is out of the question. But I have been doing squats. Haven't done dead lifts, I will try those though. And you're probably right about it being hard to dunk, but we will see. Thanks!

    I'd say it's possible.
    -Squats
    -Lunges
    -Box Jumps
    -STRETCH

    Now that I think about it. Aren't dead lifts more back?

    there's a vid somewhere with a powerlifter that finishes a lift and then excitedly jumps up in the air with a fist pump. he looks like he's flying.

    olympic lifts did it for me... snatch, 1 arm snatch, front squats, box jumps. i was able to get both by hands around the rim.. ive stopped doing them and now am back to square one :squint:

    look into something called the "jump workout".... 2 of my bestfriends do something of that sort... a lot of plyometric shit


    btw im 235 and grab the rim at 5' 11'' :big grin:

    There's a whole site where basically all the guys do is squat and jump......a lot.

    Almost all of them have ridiculous verticals.
