.. ROUND It has been found that a Warrant Officer (Age 52)sent to Samawa, Iraqi as part of the 9th support group, to support the rebuilding efforts, lost a single 9mm hand gun round and stole another round from a magazine in the armory to make the numbers match. The Japanese Ground Self Defence Force Central Command has decided to suspend the solider from duty for a 5 days. It is the first time that disciplinary action has been taken in Iraqi since the JSDF was deployed in 2004. According to sources, the Warrant Officer noticed that he had lost a round when he entered the base and was required to turn in his weapons, ammo and empty brass at the gate of the base after returning from target practice. He smoothed things over for the time being, then stole a live round from a magazine belonging to a different solider in the armory when he was cleaning his weapon. On the afternoon of the same day, a different solider noticed that a round was missing and reported it to his superior. A 20 hour search of the base resulted in a round being found near the gate. The markings on the case showed that the round had been issued to the Warrant Officer. The Warrant Officer admitted to stealing the round. The JGSDF Central Command has decided to take disciplinary action against the gate guard and 2 officers for not having visually confirmed the ammo being returned, in addition to suspending the solider from duty for a 5 days. The 9th support group will return to Japan next month. The Warrant Officer will be arrested by MPs and tried under military law for theft.
