    if you can take a good picture, you can take a good picture, I don't give a shit what kind of camera you have.

    that being said, these pics are out of focus, blurry and not composed well. I don't care of the poster used a D3x.

    the d40 is a decent camera. it's usually the ppl who don't know how to use it that gives it a worse reputation than it should get. :o

    I started on a D40, you don't have to sell me on it's benefits. I view it for exactly what it is, a beginner DSLR meant to get people interested in the world of DSLR photography and teach them the basics. There are plenty of better camera bodies, but that doesn't make it a piece of shit for what it's purpose is.

    Your white balance is also off on the cake. If you shoot in RAW it's much easier to correct, as there's a nice little slider in PS... if not, then you've got a little more pp work ahead of you.

    Best advice I can give is read read read threads here and look out for how people compose similar shots. Get composition down and you are on your way.
