It's a supporting wall, so we need it.Do you need that wall there? I'd prefer the larger one with no wall.

In the end you should just do what makes you and the wife happy. Sounds like you have your heart set on the big one. Even if it ends up not being optimal, like you said, it’s only a few steps through the dining room.lol i know dude. the more I think about it the more I flip flop.
I'm leaning Big Island though (some would say Peninsula) which is why this nearly unanimous poll against it only muddies the waters for me more.
Mrs Sam likes the big island too. We hate to lose the counterspace, bceause aside from about 18-20" on either side of the cooktop against the bank of cabinets, we have no other space. We need that prep space for cooking, baking etc, and I hate to limit ourselves. In the end you should just do what makes you and the wife happy. Sounds like you have your heart set on the big one. What does Mrs. Sam think?
😎 go for the big one homie. Weighing the cons, I bet you would be more frustrated and regretful if you go small and end up not having enough counter space or think it looks out of place in the grand space. Sounds like the inconvenience of a longer path would be comparatively minor for you.Mrs Sam likes the big island too. I told my wife that OT thinks we should go small island.😎 go for the big one homie. The real ones know you should do the big island
FFUUUIt's a supporting wall, so we need it.
You can do some structural upgrades but I suspect you want to do minimal work for a kitchen remodelIt's a supporting wall, so we need it.
Tell her that coffee girl likes the small island
Man. MAN.Tell her that coffee girl likes the small island
So coincidentally if you didn’t have the wall…. Would you still go with the small island? Definitely not right? Well even if the wall stays it doesn’t technically interfere with flow vs no wall and big island. There’s a mental component of leaving the kitchen through the dining room to get to the other side of the island that might throw some off, but it’s maybe one or two more steps than if you got rid of the wall.Do you need that wall there? I'd prefer the larger one with no wall.

The opposite of whatever this guy says.More space to move around > more space on the counter top
I’m not sure I’m ready to sacrifice the very tangible counter top space, the storage and the admittedly subjective aesthetic for this unquantifiable aspect of “flow” tbh.Your flow is going to feel so incredibly interrupted if you don't have pass through on both sides. You say "technically" about the flow not being interrupted with the wall there, but I promise you it will interrupt the flow both functionally and visually.
I think it’s like 9 and a bit. Also, what is smaller island? If it's > 9' you'll be fine long term and you'll be so happy you left you and your spouse escape routes.![]()
We are definitely not doing the drop down thing although I appreciate the outside the box suggestionThe longer island makes me feel like the way kitchens are designed in apartments rather than a contemporary house.
And again, you can always have an additional piece of counter on a hinge that can drop down with a pass through underneath.
