reblueing my K98 right now. the solution smells horrible.
i tried the blue wonder cold bluing kit, and had mixed results
pros: no smell, easy to use, you can tailor the level of darkness/transparency, fairly quick turn around time
cons: isn't "real" bluing, if you don't keep oil on it rust occurs quickly, "takes" to different kinds of steel differently (i.e. scopes barrel trigger guard)
in the end i think its really only good for shit that you "want" to do yourself. if its something thats important to you for whatever reason just spend the 85 bones and have it professionally done.
I used a dremel cutoff wheel to cut down the FSB on my AR when I mounted my eotech... I used some Birchwood/Casey "Super Blue" and it work great. Looks like I paid for a low-profile gas block.
how does it hold up? did it blend in with the stock bluing?
I think it looks great. If I didn't know I did it, I'd think it came that way from the factory... But I'll let you decide, for yourself:
Brownells oxpho blue doesn't really have any bad scent. I would wear gloves when using any of them though .
no shit, when i did mine i was to excited to try it, and didn't need to be bothered by such sissified things as gloves. needless to say i had bluish green fingerprints for like 4 days
