Don't get me wrong, I love my 10/22, but with all the money I've put into it I really had higher expectations for its performance. It's reasonably accurate at 50 yards (on a good day I can shoot 1/2" groups with it, and I've managed to shoot a handful of 1/4" groups) but the accuracy at 100 yards really drops off. Not to mention I can't get that trigger any less than 2 lbs without dropping some serious dough and getting the whole thing reworked. Ideally what I want is something that can be a tack driver out of the box, relatively cheap ammo for lots of practice, and can be accurate up to at least 100 yards. I've probably spend on the order of $400-500 on my 10/22 so I wouldn't mind paying that price for something more accurate even if it's left in factory configuration. What are some good calibers that can accomplish this? Specific models? I've been looking at .17 hmr a little bit, but I don't know much about them. Thanks for any help.
