I'm looking for a decent set of sub 200$ speakers to use off my computer for party type situations (dorm room). I don't care about them for solo audio listening as I do headphones already.

I'm going to be using my onboard sound w/ no amp (all I have is a dedicated headphone amp :o)

    thanks

for something with decent output, i've had good luck with altec lansings... they're fairly cheap and can handle a decent amount of abuse.

klipsh and logitech both make decent 2.1 systems that can get loud enough
if you want better sq, you must upgrade your sound card

your onboard soundcard will be your weakest link in soundquality. you can spend all the money you want on high-end DAC's and what not, but you'll be limited by your soundcard. get at least a decent one.

I think i spent $50 on my Audigy LS and another $55 on my Logitech ZX32s or something like that. My shit gets fairly loud.
