Anything i should know?
It's a very simple & easy piercing.
nothing special i should know? I have my labret pierced, some people say that's one of the most painful but i didn't feel a damn thing. I heard the day after you get your tongue pierced is a bitch.
i had mine done, left ice on it for about an hour, went to eat at outback that night and i never felt it swell. some people have a terrible time with there's but if you don't smoke or drink(alcohol) for awhile i don't see how.
my friend has his and he said suck on ice and crush up some ibueprofine(sp?) and put it on your tongue and you should be fine. also, is it hard to clean the plaque build up for the first week or so due to the pain?
if i clean it with a toothbrush during the healing process, wouldn't it hurt because of the car moving in my mouth? i remember when i got my labret, everytim eit moved it hurt like a mother fucker.
one of my friends said to just wash it out with listerine, but from what i remember, listerine has alcohol in it, and that's bad because it dries it out right?
When I got my tongue pierced in '97(?) I was definitely told to use Listerine since the wound won't 'dry out' due to saliva. It's best to keep your mouth as clean as possible considering all the bacteria, but that's my opinion.
I had swelling for the first 6 hrs or so but it wasn't too bad and went away fairly quick. I would also suggest getting a smaller barbell as soon as you can. I chipped one of my molars (minor chip) with the larger barbell.
Expect some soreness afterwards but nothing severe. Speech is a tiny bit impaired as you learn to talk around the barbell...if anything try to get it done on Friday so you have the weekend to recover.
I've had my tounge pierced for about 5 years. My healing sucked. Mine was swollen for about a week and it was very irritating. I lived off ice, ice cream and slurpee's, and i used listerine to clean mine.
Times have changed, and Listerine is no longer a good cleaning tool for oral piercings. Tech2000 or Biotene are most certainly the way to go now. You can probably find Biotene in the dental section at Walgreens, its in a white bottle. It is alcohol-free, and has an enzyme solution that speeds up the healing of oral wounds/irritations
I was also wondering, where is the best positioning for it? Closest to the webbing as possible?
Anyone else know about positioning?
I'm going at noon today....i'm so nervous
Get yourself some ibuprofen, that will keep the swelling down to get you through the first couple days. If you use listerine, make sure you dillute it in a 50/50 water solution, as straight listerine will just irritate the piercing. AVOID SALTY FOODS LIKE THE PLAGUE!! The first day I got pierced, I went out and ate some fries covered in salt; I sorely regretted it I also recommend stopping by your local Sonic and getting a cup of ice from them, as it is like little pellets, and goes great on a new oral piercing.
Other than that, give it a couple days until it is not tender anymore, then you can start stretching it out against your teeth gently, that will allow it to slide through your tongue easier and make it easier to talk. That should be all of the pain that you have to go through, unless you decide to go ahead and gauge it. I've got a 4g in mine
use biotene for mouthwash. it rocks. non alcohol peppermint taste and it really soothes the piercing.
i never knew about biotene until i got my tongue done, and now i use it every day, even though my healing is over. it really does help heal irritations in your mouth, and if you have oral piercings, you will probably end up with irritations in your mouth from time to time. i even switched to biotene toothpaste after trying the sample that came with my bottle of mouthwash.
I already bought biotene and a soft bristle tooth brush, do i just take the ibueprofin normally, or do i crush it up and put it on my tongue?
i took it normally
crushing it up sounds like a bad idea to me.
everything went well...thanks for all the help guys
I just took it normally, never heard of anyone crushing it up, that shit tastes terrible
is it normal that my tongue is kind of yellow? It's a really really light shade of yellow.
Your whole tongue is yellow? Or just the top...taste bud area? Have you brushed your teeth lately? What are you using to clean the area?
you could be using a peroxide toothpaste. it will react with iron and cause nasties on your tongue. check your toothpaste and see, its pretty common to have peroxide in it. i use the Aquafresh Extreme Clean and Colgate Max Fresh, both those are peroxide free
