TECH Looking to upgrade my Video Card

So, while i am able to install parts, picking them out is a while other story.

I bought my current video card, a Nvidia Geforce 8600 GT, off a friend around a year and a half ago from a friend. I think it may be time to upgrade.

and has a PCI E 2.0 slot if that helps.

Not looking to blow a crazy amount, college already eats up enough of my funds, but I have a feeling my current card is a bit outdated.

Currently looking at that card. Can anyone spot a blatant reason it would be incompatible with motherboard above? or, reasons why i shouldnt go for it

That card is fairly old as well. What makes you want to upgrade, and what are you looking to spend?

If you're going to get a Radeon 4xxx get a 4870 or higher.

I want to spend ~ 100 although 150 wouldnt be out of the question.

I figure my card is pretty outdated and it seems i could upgrade a reasonable amount. Also, i miss gaming and would love to jump back into it

Between $100 and $150 look at Radeon HD 5770, HD 6770 and Nvidia GTX 450, GTX 550ti.
If you're willing to shell out a little more than $150, Newegg has plenty of Nvidia GTX 460 1GB cards that fall below $150 after rebate.

I would be fine with doing a rebate. Ill take a look on newegg for the GTX 460's

Also, does the manufacturer make a huge difference? or do i mainly only care about the chipset itself?

Manufacturer can make a difference. I think it's more important to just avoid the crappier ones. Try to get ones like XFX, Sapphire, Asus, or EVGA.

Hm, The price is right and the reviews are decent.

I don't know anything about Zotac. I do know that since XFX stopped making Nvidia cards I'd go with EVGA or BFG Tech.
