I need a laptop for school, 1.5 years left in undergrad and 3 years in law school. I have a powerful PC at home, which I barely use to play games as I work so much. I only really need the laptop for basic school stuff, wireless internet, and watching movies. The only reason I would need windows is so I could VPN into my work's terminal server away from my house whenever I needed to. I want battery life (5+ hours), and I would prefer small. I need the ability to burn CDs and wireless internet. For the above reasons, and the fact that it will last longer, look better, be faster, and be more reliable, I've decided to get a mac instead of a PC laptop. From the above, it would seem like all I need is an ibook. There is no rush on buying this. So, here are my options, which one sounds best? 0) Buy a used G3 ibook (500CDN) and a new battery (if I can?). 1) Buy a used 12" G4 ibook (900-1000CDN) locally, perhaps get some extra software. Its cheaper, but I don't think I can get the AppleCare warranty, which I would prefer to have. 2) Buy a new 12" G4 ibook now with applecare and more ram (1249+299+65=1600 + tax). I get 3 years of warranty, a new ibook, but spend a lot. 3) Buy a MacBook in May/June when they are released. It'll probably be a bit more expensive, and probably have more power than I need, but I can run windows for work stuff, and it will stay powerful through to the end of law school. Plus I'll have applecare as well. 4) Wait until the MacBooks are out and pick up a new 12" ibook and applecare for cheaper. Thoughts? Thanks for the help.
