Today i got to sit in the 4th Mclaren ever made. it had expermanal project written all over it. i rich dude in my nieborhood bought it from someone in new zeland a year ago and just got it today. i got to his house right after he drove it, that engine puts off so much damn heat you could not even get that close.
it was nuts! he said tat their are only 3 expermntals, xp3 (ownded by the desighner), xp4 ( owned by him), andthe xp5 (owned by McLaren). he is the second owner of the first McLaren ever sold to the public.

not positive here, and you may be right, but they look more like titanium to me, possibly titanium nitrate, very light with good properties as far as strength and handling heat, i can see alot more titanium in the pic, and thats what those look like too, thats why the welder made those burn marks, gold doesn't do that when heated

I dunno about the 'mufflers' (you guys dont half talk funny :big grin:) but that bonnet (shit, hood) is plated in gold as it reflects the heat back or somesuch.
They are built down the road from me (Weybridge, Surrey, UK) and just after they finished testing them on the tracks they took one out for a spin on the open roads. Some dick tapped the gas as they went round a roundabout and wrote it off. The first F1 lasted a few hours!

As an amusing side note, a friend of mine was training to be a photo journalist and past the crash site a few minutes after the incident on her way to somewhere less interesting. The car was mashed beyond recognision and so she didn't realise what it was. No paper had a picture of the crash despite it being quite large news at the time. She could have made a fortune!
