I thought you were a welder? or are you just around heavy machinery and I conflated the two
I’m a fabricator first most, but I also weld.. I’m a b class which means I can weld anything and everything except if it’s going to be tested/x-rayed.. that’s A class and have to be tested for that

prob worth googling welder duty cycle, but basically a given machine can run for xx% of the time or say 5 minutes straight before it gets too hot in some capacity and needs to cool down
Well I mean it's a given I'll do that anyway. Sometimes a quick ask and an answer from a pro can yield a lot more than minutes/hours of sifting so I feel it fair to ask. Quite frankly there isn't a question I can't google, and with that that would mean I would never have any questions - and in real life that comes across as being a know it all and rubs people the wrong way, esp in shops. I'm also just makin conversation

With that said, I wonder if I've hit the duty with this little lincoln. Hmm.

Machine needs to be running at 100%, most machines are between 40-60% duty cycle

Oh gotcha, at my old job all welds had to be xrayed and validated... I do kinda miss being around it all the time but I'm just an IT nerd and the job sucked

Guy I did my apprenticeship with just offered me a job, it’s just an 45min drive to, and an hr drive home.. otherwise the works awesome.. kinda thinking about it but where I’m at is a little more secure with benefits etc.

but he builds these... and does all pressure pipe work but he’s branching out to aluminium work platforms/boats etc

Don't you feel like that would get boring doing production work on similar product? I mean I guess you do that anyway, but something giant like boat hulls has to have some appeal. I guess maybe a weld is a weld and a change is always nice too, keeps you on your toes and gains you new experience. My current job now is 5 minutes away and honestly I don't think I'll go back. Commuting is the fucking worst. I'll keep my 2 hours a day thanks.

I had a subscription to a dinosaur magazine and every month I'd get a new glow in the dark kit like that

Cinci, OH
Found someone on FB marketplace selling a "broken, for parts" hobart handler 187 for $50. Was missing the power cord and regulator gauges, and the consumables were shot. Turns out the contactor was wired wrong, and 25ft of 10ga power cable and some c25 gas and some tinkering were all it needed.
I'll consider it a win. Wired a 220v outlet to my garage, already have a 160amp tig/stick machine and argon. Ready to improve my welding skills.
